In times like these what better activities to do than to binge-watch just another superhero series like The Umbrella Academy but surprisingly this is not just another typical superhero series and it was adopted from the comic books with the same title written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá.
The story is about 7 ‘gifted’ infants adopted by a billionaire industrialist named Sir Reginald Hargreeves from the rest 43 other infants who were born on the same day in October 1989 from random and unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before (Strange isn’t it? Are you intrigued yet?). He created The Umbrella Academy to prepare these children to save the world. But along the time, the children left the academy one by one due to their unknown reasons and the team became disbanded.
In the present time, the remaining 6 of thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’s death. And the storyline becomes more interesting with their different personalities and abilities you’ve gotta watch the series to find out the story of the refreshingly new superheroes which the director and creator of the series are trying to portray the human side of each character and the more I follow each episode I’m getting more excited to know how the fate of each character unfold and I’m telling you that you’re not gonna regret watching The Umbrella Academy series.
The Umbrella Academy Season 1
The soundtracks of the series portrayed are also very enjoyable to hear as they fit into the scenes like there’s a scene in the first episode when they funnily dancing with an old song titled “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tifanny (1987) and the other scenes with catchy songs that I remember is when their enemy tries to kill one of them, they used the rock band Queen song that I don’t know the title. The other scene that I fond of is when the character Luther and Allison was dancing in a park and they use “Dancing In the Moonlight” by Toploader and it suits the mood they’re trying to portray and when I watch it feels like I’m there with them. I think the music supervisor in this series is super cool and looking from the original creator series who is Gerard Way who is from the band My Chemical Romance doesn’t surprise that the soundtracks they use in the series get into the scenes and become more enjoyable to watch.
By the way some explanation about the personality and abilities of The Umbrella Academy:
Number 1: Luther has some daddy issues and the leader of the member, he wants to please his Dad (Sir Reginald Hargreeves) and just had a mission on the moon before joining the rest of the member later. He has a ‘King Kong’ body due to a past terrible accident.
Number 2: Diego is good at using knives and can control the flow of bullets shooting. Stuck in a Hero-mode like he has to be the hero of the family and he is dyslexic but fortunately has Grace his ‘Mom’ who patiently taught him to speak well.
Number 3: Allison is an actress and recently divorced with one daughter. She can control anyone to do whatever she wants them to do by starting a sentence “ I heard a rumor that…”
Number 4: Klaus is a drug addict and able to see, summon, and communicate with the dead. He is even able to influence them to attack anyone who could be a threat to him.
Number 5: the only member who has no real name and he is the so-called oldest due to his ability to jump and travel through time. Fortunately, he can come back in time to his family (the Umbrella Academy) to get them to save the world before it ends.
Number 6: Ben has tentacles but unfortunately died in unknown circumstances when he was just a teen but got summon back by Klaus so he still can help the rest of the members.
Number 7: Vanya who is surprisingly ordinary with no power, along with the storyline she is the most powerful one even when the rest of them combined (Spoiler alert) and that’s why I mentioned that this show is getting more interesting along the way that’s why it got high ratings.
The Umbrella Academy Season 2
It’s getting more exciting and engaging in the second season of the series and the soundtrack of the series are getting even better like when Diego tries to escape from the mental institution they used the song “Crazy” by Daniela Andrade or when Number 5 and Lila, the new character got into a fight they use the “Bad Guy” song covered by a ska-punk band called The Interrupters and surprisingly and randomly fun song appearance by the Backstreet Boys. Last but not least there’s a classic song “Dancing With Myself,” by Billy Idol came in the right time scene when Number 5 is fighting with the old version of himself is pretty hilarious if I may say.
Overall I had I blast watching (read: binging) this series and can’t wait for Season 3 to come out! At least The Umbrella Academy got my hopes up until I have the guts to start writing this series review and I hope whoever reading this will be thrilled to watch the series and until next time I’ll be covering other interesting shows to review and see ya.
